I received a renewal notice this morning from Domain Name Renewal Service. I know a few of my clients have had these in the past too, so I thought I’d mention it here.
This looks at first glance like an official reminder to renew your domain. It states your domain and correctly quotes the imminent renewal date.
DON’T SEND THEM ANY MONEY
The second paragraph says;
“Registering your name with us will ensure you retain exclusive rights to it on the Web, and now is the time to transfer and renew your name from your current Registrar to the Domain Renewal Group. Failure to renew your domain name by the expiration date may result in a loss of your online identity making it difficult for your customers and friends to locate you on the Web.”
This is worded to worry you into filling out the form and sending the renewal.
They are trying to take over provision of your domain.
Re-read the letter carefully and you wil spot that it does really say that chnages in regulations mean that you can choose who to use to register your domain. This is true and you don’t need to chnage unless you want to. This letter is a covert attempt to trick you into move registration of your domain to the Domani Renewal Group.
