Reading the is4profit news today I noticed an article about UK SME Business preferences regarding domain name extensions for their websites.
Sedo, the global domain name market place, has revealed that British SMEs are placing more emphasis on registering local .co.uk domains than the globally popular .com extension.
According to the Sedo study, nearly two thirds (63%) of UK SMEs register their relevant .co.uk domain name, while only half (53%) have registered their.com extension.
My own thoughts are – for an extra few quid; register both. Would you really want to risk some having yourname.com (assuming you went with yourname.co.uk) being picked up and used for a competitors business or perhaps worse still an ‘adult’ website?!
